Governor Quinn signed two bills to support the men and women who defend our freedom overseas. On June 28 he signed House Bill 4674, which expands educational opportunities for military children in the care of non-custodial parents. It dissolves tuition fees for those who transfer school districts in order to live in their temporary households. In addition, on July 8 House Bill 6103 was signed by Governor Quinn. This law expands veterans’ mental health coverage and guarantees treatment to service members that have been diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury or post-traumatic stress disorder.
TWO RETIREES AND VETERANS HONORED Retirees and Veterans George Sarlitto, Jr. and Albert Greenwald were flown to Washington DC for an all expense paid trip to attend a special recognition ceremony. HBO, Steven Spielberg and other Washington dignitaries welcomed 250 veterans, who served in the Pacific, to the World War II Memorial. They were honored for their bravery and service. They were also given the opportunity to view the premiere of a miniseries about the war called "The Pacific." Albert and George both said it was a wonderful experience. |
